Remembering Joseph

I was totally unaware that Joseph was writing a blog while in Iraq. I'm not sure if Seth was/is reading it, but I am now. It's linked under the blogs on this page now too. I also tried finding a good poem for fallen soldiers, but then found this one on Joseph's Facebook page. His page is now being used as a way for people to send wishes to his family and tell how they knew him and how they are feeling. I am feeling sad for my husband and his family. I wish I could hug them all and that would make it better. Instead, I will try to find meaningful ways to remember the amazing person he was.

"Invictus"
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
--William E. Henley

  1. I wish all you and all of Seth's family peace, and I hope you know that we are proud of his heroism. I know it is little comfort, but he will not be forgotten, and it was not in vain.
