Introducing...

...Lila Jeanne Burrow :-)

She is her father's daughter.  There are now countless pictures of our little munchkin that are the spitting image of Seth.  She also sleeps constantly and is very hard to wake up.  I would imagine these are just the beginning of a long run of similarities between the two people that are the center of my world.

I have to admit first and foremost that this experience of becoming a mother has truly run the gamut of emotions for me.  I know a lot about babies, kids, diapers, toys, etc.  You can nanny and teach and be surrounded by kids your entire life and nothing will ever prepare you for what comes with having your own.  I am scared.  I am tired.  I am overwhelmed.  I am overjoyed. I am paranoid.  But most of all, I am in love.  She's perfect.  Seth and I keep saying that to each other. In many cases I would think that sounds really vain.  But honestly, it's said in more of a surprised manner on our part.  Like, "how did we create something so perfect?". I think my biggest fear is that I will screw her up somehow.

At a little over a week old, here is what we know about Lila:
1)  She has perfected the art of projectile pooping at the exact moment you open the diaper. Seth actually got a handful of poop yesterday morning.  She also tends to pee on the new diaper before you close it up.  Maybe she doesn't like feeling restricted so she holds it until she feels a draft.  Sneaky little thing.
2)  We know that newborns don't technically smile or grimace per say. HOWEVER, Lila's assortment of faces while sleeping are so varied and hysterical.  We have named this one "blue steel" and this picture doesn't really do it justice (see Zoolander if you have no idea where this came from).  More coming soon.

3)  She is completely fine with sleeping awkwardly, sleeping anywhere, and sleeping constantly. I realize this will probably change and I should thank my lucky stars right now.  Just understand, for those of you who have been asking to see pictures, that she has slept through most of her life up to this point.  That is why I took the following video (I am aware that it isn't the most exciting, but we had fun doing it!):

But just for good measure here is the real deal...

The nursery pictures are still coming.  Lila and I will be taking a trip to Ikea soon to make it more girly and then I will share!

Country clubbers unite

Oh yes my friends.  The sophisticated rednecks you know and love are taking a walk on the more sophisticated side.   I'm sure the redneck days of sitting in tailgating chairs drinking beer in the carport aren't behind us, but looking ahead we have some very uppity options we did not have before.  We are suddenly members of the Smoke Rise Country Club complete with golf, swim and tennis, and the ever exciting club restaurant.  I have not actually been to or seen all of this yet, but I  am awaiting the day on pins and needles!  Of course, we have to have a baby here before clubbing can take full swing.

Speaking of baby, while my true due date is today, I have exhausted many efforts to get this child to make an appearance.  It's not the baby's fault, but I am antsy for it's arrival being that I thought all along the due date was a week ago.  We went to Scalini's last night and I ate the eggplant Parmesan.  I have had Mexican.  I have walked around Target repeatedly and spent money I probably didn't need to spend in the process.  I am about 90% sure that all of this has done nothing.  BUT, good times were had by all so I can't complain.  We have no solid, committed girl name and the boy name may not be Owen after all.  I KNOW.  We are a little out of control in the name department.   Just know that when you finally hear the sex and name of this child do not say a word other than how much you love the name.   I just don't think we could take it if you poke fun after all this deliberation.  Anyway, cross your fingers, say a prayer, do a little dance...whatever you think will send labor pains our way.  I AM READY.

Weekend review

Apparently there are more ladies out there that like X-men than I thought!  Well ladies, if you haven't seen Wolverine in all his glory yet, I suggest you do.  Seth seemed slightly disappointed in the movie and I will agree that it left some things to be desired.  I just can't tell you what those things are.  Of course they leave it open ended for a other X-men origins movies to follow.  But there were times where I thought it was lacking something.  The people who are in it are fantastic and so are the special effects and all of that so it's still a must see.

Unfortunately, I will not be seeing any more movies before baby Burrow's arrival.  My love for the Movie Tavern has been squelched by severe back pain that comes with going there.  Something about the way the seats are and the insane size of my belly does not mesh.  Twenty minutes into the movie I would almost rather be standing the whole time.  I also want to take a poll.  Who thinks that bringing a child between the ages of say birth and three years old to a movie is normal?  If you do think so, I apologize if I am about to offend you.  But seriously, I want to walk up to people like that and say "just because you can't find a sitter doesn't mean it's ok to subject the rest of us to your screaming infant during a movie we just paid close to $20 to see!".  It truly infuriates me.  No movie is so great that you can't go without seeing it in the theater.  Rent it when it comes out for rent and watch it in the privacy of your own home so that when your baby is screaming or your two year old wants to spend thirty minutes talking about Blues Clues it only interrupts the movie for you.   I will be the first to say I love kids and babies more than anything, but there are appropriate measures I believe people should take as parents.  Am I wrong here?

Anyway, the second part of our weekend fun was the shockingly entertaining Kentucky Derby.  I have never once watched the Derby, gone to a Derby party, or even given it a thought really. Our friends Dave and Nicole moved back to Atlanta after living in Richmond, VA for a while and they enjoyed the Derby parties up there so much that they wanted to have their own.  It came complete with big hats, bourbon tasting, and gambling on the race.   Nine months prego and all, I had the best time!  Of course, how can you not have the best time when there is an endless amount of spinach dip and cookies (thanks Meg)?  The fun started with the fantastic food.  It then moved on to the bourbon tasting which was a total riot.  At the end of the tasting the most talked about, most enjoyed, and (according to the guys) most delicious brand of bourbon was actually the second cheapest bottle on the table.  Everyone was stunned!  I think it was called Ancient Age.  Next, we all piled in the house to watch the Derby.  We had all put in $5 each and drawn a number for a horse.  So there was no skill involved here.  My horse was "Mr. Hot Stuff" and Seth's was "Nowhere to Hide".  Meg ended up being the big winner of the pot of money with "Mine that Bird".  I learned that the Derby is considered to be the fastest three minutes in sports.  I have to admit, I rather enjoyed the instant gratification even if I didn't win.

Alright so everyone cross their fingers that baby Burrow makes an appearance this week.  I will be going to Scalini's for the eggplant Parmesan on Wednesday night if anyone is interested in joining in :-)

Major dorks

That would be us!  I went earlier today to buy tickets to see Wolverine tonight.  Seth and I are still on a long running boycott of the gigantic mega movie theater (Regal 24 on Shallowford Rd.) near our house due to his truck being broken into last year and their COMPLETE lack of regard or security.  SO, not long ago a Movie Tavern opened even closer to our house.  Movie Taverns are the chain where you can go and order dinner and drinks and such and each and drink while you watch the movie.  We love the Movie Tavern.  It's only downside is that it is quite small and the theaters are even smaller due to all the extra room needed for tables for your food.  Therefore, I went at noon today to buy the Wolverine tickets for the 7:30 pm movie because it will probably sell out quickly there.  That, my friends, is not what makes us huge dorks.  We have been looking forward to this movie like crazy.  For Seth, or boys in general, that's not such a dorky thing.  The few girls I have told about my excitement about this movie have kind of looked at me like I have two heads.  That is when I began to realize that my fascination with X-men, and Wolverine in particular, is not something I share with many women.  At any rate, as much as I do want baby Burrow to come I am secretly hoping it will not be during the movie.  Seth is not so secretly hoping.  He is quite verbal about how I should make sure the baby doesn't come until at least tomorrow.  I keep telling him we would be a lot more well off if I could predict such things, let alone control them.

This doesn't make us dorks, but we are also going to a Kentucky Derby party tomorrow.  I do say "we" in the hopeful mindset that Seth will be able to go.  I don't plan to wear a big fancy hat because I just don't think big and fancy coincide with nine months pregnant.  Call me crazy, but I fear a festive enough hat for a Kentucky Derby party will accentuate my already enormous state.  Regardless, I'm excited to have something fun to do!  I am getting a little stir crazy even though I have plenty to do.

Lastly in the weekend update for the Burrows, my dad will be getting into town on Sunday.  He recently took over as the VP of the Atlanta Tiffany's along with the other stores in this region. This region was added to the Florida region which he was already VP of.   So visits from Pop, as he will be called now, will be much more frequent.  He, of course, just found out about the change in due date, but he had already bought a plane ticket to come up here. I'm discussing with baby Burrow that his or her Pop will be very disappointed if he doesn't get to meet his first grandchild while he's here.  Of course, he will be here for a week and then back through here again not long after that, so they will meet soon.  It just doesn't hurt to provide some incentive right?

Anyway, I hope whoever is still reading this blog has a great weekend.  By the way, if you do still read, please become a follower.  It's really easy to do and I would love to see who is still reading. Just look on the right side of the screen where the three followers have signed up and add yourself.   Thanks!!!
